Ja whip Leeward Islands

Buchanan

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CANA:

JAMAICA completed an eight-wicket victory over Leeward Islands in their second round West Indies youth championship match at Uitvlugt yesterday.

The Jamaicans, who lost outright to Barbados in their first match, reached 31 for two after being set 29 for victory by Leewards, who fell for 81 in their second innings.

Resuming at the overnight 27 for three, Leewards lost their last seven wickets for 54 runs, fast bowler Dwight Washington ending with four for 22, off-spin bowler Wayne Simpson three for 42 and Lorenzo Ingram two for six.

Zachary Kenworthy was the first Leewards batsman dismissed after adding one to his overnight score. Once he was lbw to left-arm spin bowler Ingram, the floodgates open.

Before Leewards had cleared the first innings deficit of 56, Steve Liburd was caught at cover off Ingram and Gareth Matthew and Marvin Hamilton went to Simpson.

After that there was no comeback story, although Samek Connor and Larry Joseph resisted briefly with an eighth-wicket stand of 21 before the innings was wrapped up.

Jamaica lost captain Donovon Pagon, caught down the legside by wicketkeeper Gareth Matthew, and Shawn Findlay lbw in the same Connor over.

Gregory Buchanan and Ingram however, formalised the result for the Jamaicans. Connor ended with two for eight.
