A meeting for what?

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WHILE CITIZENS of Western Kingston continue to be forced from their homes, the leaders continue to debate over a proposed meeting. A meeting for what? Will the violence be brought to an end after this meeting? To say yes would indicate that the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader are somehow culpable or have some ability to control it. If they unfortunately do and are truly willing to put an end to it, each would individually use his power to this end rendering a meeting unnecessary.

Some may say that we need this meeting as another act of symbolism.

But Jamaica's history is full of symbolism which hasn't worked in the past.

I fear that we continue down a road that leads nowhere, let's stop here and decide where we truly want to go.
