Five killed at weekend

FIVE PERSONS lost their lives in separate incidents over the weekend, according to reports from the Constabulary Com-munications Network (CCN).

Among them was 37-year-old Joseph Thorpe, of Brown's Lane, Kingston 13, who was shot dead on Saturday by a lone gunman on Maxfield Avenue, Kingston 13.

According to the CCN, Mr. Thorpe was driving a Toyota Corolla motor car along Maxfield Avenue at about 4:45 p.m. when a man, who signalled him to stop, reportedly pulled a firearm and opened fire, hitting him all over the body. Mr. Thorpe drove off but his vehicle crashed into a utility pole and he died on the spot.

A woman was detained for questioning by the Port Maria police following the stabbing death of her common-law husband at Warner Street, Port Maria, St. Mary. The dead man has been identified as 33-year-old Tony Samuels of Warner Street.

The CCN reported that Mr. Samuels and his common-law wife got into a dispute which developed into a fight when they returned home from a wake at about 12:10 a.m. It is alleged that Mr. Samuels fell on a knife he had in his hand. He received injuries to his chest and was taken to the Port Maria Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Meantime, the body of 70 year-old watchman, Arnest Anglin, of Harding Hall, Hanover, was found with multiple machete wounds at Philnett Auto Parts, Harding Hall, yesterday. His body, which was found at the rear of the premises by residents, had several machete wounds and both his hands almost severed.

And a prisoner has been slapped with a murder charge following the fatal stabbing of another prisoner at the May Pen lockup in Clarendon yesterday. The dead man has been identified as Clive Bent, 36, otherwise called "Al Capone" of Rocky Point, Clarendon. Dean Brevette, 24, of Lewis Street, May Pen, has been charged with his murder.

Eighteen-year-old Sheroy Robinson of Rose Heights, St. James was shot and killed by unknown assailants in the parish on Saturday night, the police reported. He was reportedly standing by the side of the road near where a dance was in progress when explosions were heard at about 11 p.m. His body was later found with gunshot wounds to the back, armpit and left leg. He was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
