Three held in cop's murder

THREE PERSONS, including the boyfriend of Constable Karen Tingle, are being interrogated by detectives in connection with last Thursday's slaying of the 34-year-old policewoman.

According to reports, the three were picked up on the weekend and taken into police custody.

Allegations are that Miss Tingle's death could have been a contract killing as there are reports that a hefty sum was paid to execute her. The constable was attacked on Jackson Road, near Hagley Park Road, St. Andrew. Miss Tingle, who was attached to the Constant Spring Police Station, left her home at about 7:30 a.m. when three men in a white car shot up her black Nissan Sunny motor car.

Since January, five members of the police force have been killed by gunmen. Constable Tingle is the second female cop to be killed in 13 years.

In the meantime, a number of organisations have condemned last week's killing of the Constable. The People's National Party Human Rights Commis-sion, in extending its condolence, also invited civil society to sit together and come up with ideas, plans and strategies to rescue the country from the violence.
