THINKING ABOUT coming to Black River on vacation or for an overnight meeting? Then the place to stay is the prestigious Invercauld Hotel and Great House situated at the western end of the town of the St. Elizabeth capital.

The Invercauld Hotel and Great House which is over a hundred years old was built by a Scottish businessman when Black River's port was one of the most important places in the island. Its design is typically Georgian with gabled roof and bay windows.

Recently appointed manager of the hotel, Claudette Rose, said she is looking forward to continue the development of the property. "One of my aims in the short-term is to work on the local market which is really targeting the local guests and in the long-term I will be focusing on the overseas market," she added.

"A part of my marketing drive for Invercauld is to introduce new ways of food preparation, have regular happy hours on weekends and to bring back the entertainment aspect of the hotel," Miss Rose said.

If you are concerned about our rooms, they are all equipped with air-condition, cable television and uniquely designed furniture that will leave a lasting impression on our guests. There is also and 20-member staff complement who are trained and prepared to take care of everyone who comes to the hotel.

"I think people should come and enjoy Invercauld Hotel and Great House because we have a great tradition. Our history is unique and our guest (especially overseas guests) love it here," the manager explained.

The 52-room hotel is neighbour to the Black River Branch Library and has poolside bars, fresh water swimming pool and a tennis court.

Ann-Marie Williams, front desk supervisor, who has been working at the hotel for the past seven years, testified that the experience at Invercauld is very encouraging and the hotel is an example of true hospitality.
