WESTERN BUREAU: TRUE TO the popular saying, everything will be 'cook and curry' at the Mannings High School in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, on Sunday, April 29.
The first, but certainly not last, Curry Festival will be on.
From the 10:00 a.m. starting time and with the first step through the gate, curry will be the order of the day. However, from music to cane peeling, from bicycle stunts to a push cart derby, there will be enough on show to sate the entertainment appetite as well.
And while there will be a lot to eat, there will also be a feast for the eyes, with booths presenting a range of products, services and ideas.
The Curry Festival is a family-oriented day event , literally and figuratively catering to all ages and tastes. With the Mannings Cadet Unit keeping an eagle eye, parking should be smooth, secure and organised. In addition, scores of students will be assisting in keeping the event running smoothly throughout the course of the day.
Naturally, a horde of persons from the immediate community is expected. However, the Festival's organisers are wafting the scent of good curry under the noses of people far and wide, including Negril, from where it is hoped that tourists will come to sample the fare.
The Festival will be officially opened by Member of Parliament and Minister of Water, Karl Blythe, at 1:30 p.m., before the entertainment package gets under way half-an-hour later.
The price has been kept well within reach, especially for a package of this calibre. Admission is $200 and tickets are available at Mannings High School, Sinclair's Bargain Centre, ScotiaBank, Leeds Pharmacy, Easispice, Native Travel Tours, Tanka Plaza and Jay Mars. The gate prize is a return trip for two to Miami courtesy of Air Jamaica.
