WESTERN BUREAU:
TUESDAYS ARE turning out to be great entertainment nights in Montego Bay. And last week was no exception as about 200 members of staff of the 488-room Wyndham Rose Hall Hotel took over the city's leading night spot, Margueritaville, for a party.
After experiencing the most successful occupancy level during the month of July in the 15 years that the Wyndham has taken over the property, the hotel's management decided to show appreciation in the form of a 'staff night out'.
"This is the first time something like this has happened since I have been working with the hotel, and it feels good," said a beaming Knollis Forbes. "It shows management appreciates the staff," he continued.
Some employees were dressed in company uniforms, others donned carnival whistles around their necks and jumped and pranced as if there was no tomorrow. They drank the best of wines, beers and liquors.
They brought their own resident DJ, who 'mashed' up the place with his hilarious version of hotel life. While they partied, director of sales, Jimmy Wright, stood guard at the gate handing out drink tickets.
By midnight, staffers who had been on the 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. shift had arrived.
"This is our way for saying thank you to the employees for their hard work and dedication", said Carmelita Olverson, regional director of human resources.
This week the hotel donated $300,000 towards educating children of the staff members and late September the hotel will host another a fun day for employees at Aquasol Theme Park.
