Country Duppy: a most entertaining play

THE EDITOR, Madam:

PLEASE ALLOW me space to comment on the Jamaican entertainment scene I witnessed while I visited the island during the Independence Week. I want to congratulate the cast and production team of the very hilarious play, Country Duppy, which I saw on Saturday August 12 at the Barn Theatre in Kingston.

It was a joy to see Leonie Forbes again after such a long time. She gave a splendid performance in a most entertaining play with an equally talented supporting cast of actors. Christopher Daley (Johnny from Lime Tree Lane) is a joy to watch on stage as he was on television.

The show is a very well produced and performed and I was thoroughly entertained plus educated at the same time about Jamaican death and burial superstitions. My children (12 and 16) were hearing about most of this stuff for the first time so it was also good for them.

We enjoyed the show immensely and I only hope that the producers consider touring with the play to the United States so Jamaicans here can experience the Country Duppy.

I am, etc.,

GINA MARIE TOMLINSON
