Patterson, business heads meet today

Patterson

PRIME MINISTER P.J. Patterson will go into talks with business leaders this afternoon, following a lengthy emergency Cabinet meeting yesterday.

It is expected that the business leaders will present specific proposals to stem the current rate of crime as well as proposals for personnel changes at the Ministry of National Security.

Yesterday's Jamaica House talks which were described as "full, frank and open" by a prime ministerial aide, discussed not only crime and violence but also back-to-school matters. Decisions arrived at yesterday will be communicated to the public in due course, The Gleaner was told.

Mr. Patterson who returned to the island Thursday from a two-week working vacation in Europe, will this morning address a meeting of Socialist International for Latin America and the Caribbean, at the Jamaica Conference Centre, downtown Kingston.
